The Christ Child

How Our Nativity is Different from the One in the Bible:

#1
Jesus is consistently referred to as "she."

#2
The wise women and the wise man bring snacks and jewelry. Sometimes yogurt and shoes for when Baby Jesus is bigger.
The whole wise women thing is less progressive than you'd expect. Two of the wise women have long hair, so Eleanor assumes they're women.

#3
A stable is really a great novelty motel, not a last resort.

#4
Everyone gets to take turns standing on top of the stable.

#5
The main purpose of visiting the Baby Jesus is to get a drink of milk from the cow in the stable. The wise men drop off their presents and then ask for milk. Sometimes Mary (in the voice of Mommy) says, "I'm really tired from just giving birth and taking care of Baby Jesus, could you all go ahead and help yourselves to the milk?" Then Joseph says, "Honey, I take care of Baby Jesus right now. You can milk the cow."

But in keeping with children's nativity sets and plays around the world, the name "Joseph" is seen as an unpronounce-able conundrum. In our house, it's "Jofus" or "JO-how you say it again?"

All of this is a step up from last year when Baby Jesus and Mary spent most of their time hanging out with the Cookie Monster in the Sesame Street House.
