Hobson's Choice

flower girl

Eleanor as flower girl:

After Chris, Luke and I walked up the aisle, a friend of the bride was supposed to be watching Eleanor to give her the cue when to start marching.

She looked away for a second.

Eleanor, who had heard the admonition that everyone should wait until the previous person was all the way up the aisle before they started down, saw that Grandma and Uncle Craig had reached the altar. She took off.

She tiptoed and danced up the aisle slowly, scattering her red leaves on the run. She dropped them delicately. And then when she reached the front of the room, she started over to sit with Grandma Rita. She realized she still had two leaves in her basket, and she ran back over to the aisle and tossed those last flowers down.
