Hobson's Choice

Summer Reading

Our household is a little passionate about libraries. I will go so far to say that libraries are our greatest civic institution. We may need the social welfare system more than we need libraries, but libraries work better (of course, libraries are relatively simple concoctions, so it's an unfair comparison). The lending library, thank you, Ben Franklin.

It's summer reading time, the most joyous part of the library year. Eleanor has won a bookmark and a tattoo, and she is working toward getting a free book by the end of the month. I meanwhile am participating in the adult summer reading program. It's a lot easier than last year's program which involved reading a book every week and walking 2 miles every day.

This year, we read a book every week and write a short review. Then we get to put our name into the hat for a prize. I'm steadily loading my tickets into the box for the gardening basket.

The reviews are being posted on the newspaper's website. You can read my reviews of "A Thread of Grace" and "A Girl Named Zippy" here: Summer Reading Reviews
