Garden Report

It's time for the much missed Garden Report:

Hallelujah, hot weather is here, and the plants can grow. One of the best things about having a garden is that you cease to care about weather for your own convenience. In Jenny's ideal world, it would always be 70 degrees, and it would only rain at night. But that kind of weather isn't going bring tomatoes.

The tomatoes are looking good after this last hot spell. The daylilies and echinacea are starting to flower as are the cosmos.

The pansies are just about past their prime. It's so sad that such a beautiful flower gets so hideous when the plant gets leggy. Soon I will transplant our potted pansies to a sheltered and secluded place where they may bloom again in autumn.

Meanwhile, something's laid eggs on the dogwood, and something else is eating the redbud. I've sprinkled my organic bacteria powder on them; it's meant for vegetables and vegetable pests. But it worked on the tree last year, so we'll see.
