It seems comments are being withheld on nearly all blogs with a stinginess not seen since the days of Scrooge. I love your house and just remember you have a handyman down the street! I love to loan him out!

You have a GREAT house and you, Chris and Eleanor have made it into a GREAT home. It always feels so welcoming when we walk through the door. Love you, mom

We live in a house that's over 100 years old and I am seeing more of its character every day. I do remember a while back that you discovered the secret to cleaning stains out of ancient toilets. Could you send me that advice?

Ah, the toilet. If you want to be envirnomentally friendly, try borax. Or Coca-Cola. NOT at the same time!!! I have recently switched to the cheapie Clorox toilet cleaner, and it works. But not good for the planet.

Our house is about as old as yours, Jenny. Except for our better luck with plaster, I agree totally with each of your observations. Older homes have character (and neighborhoods) that come only with the passage of time. Lots of it! The new houses I've spent time in strike me as sterile despite their advantages in other respects. I can't imagine actually living in one, but of course it's all a matter of taste.
