garden report

The Garden Report:
The Bradford Pears bloomed this week, and the spring bulbs are all up with the daffodils and crocus in bloom. The forsythia are peaking, so it's time to weed-n-feed, boys and girls, if you're into that kind of thing. The summer perenniels are starting to peep up out of the ground. I can hostas, daylilies, and coneflower. The first stage of hosta growth is not pretty; it looks like stubble.

I saw the first redbud in bloom on 8th Street yesterday, and I predict that our own tree will be budded out by the end of the weekend. The azaleas and rhodendron are forming buds, though it will be a while before we see any flowers.

"Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain,
Wheat that in the dark earth many days has lain;
Love lives again, that with the dead has been:
Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green."
