fairy update

Fairy infiltration update:

We see definite progress in supplanting princesses with fairies. Fairies have begun appearing in the home; grandparents have sent valentine wishes that involve fairies; fairies left a new bouncy ball for Eleanor while she was gone on her road trip.

Chelsea has also fallen in love with Fluffy Thimbelina, Eleanor's little fairy doll, so we have cross-species fairy infiltration. Of course, the cats have always believed in fairies. They may be fairies.

However, in researching fairies on-line, I've discovered that we've now allied ourselves with four groups that make me a little squeamish.

(1) Waldorf -- Oh, great! Just a more expensive cult than Disney with marginally better cultural values. And more historical ties to National Socialism than Disney? Lovely.

(2) New Age Travelers -- oh, lord.

(3) England with a capital E. I've no problem with England, but it seems that if I'm to encourage the fairy obsession, I might have to start importing. At least, the British have cheap postage and shipping.

And (4) Barbie! Barbie! Who knew? Barbie has this whole Fairytopia thing set up to compete with the princesses. Out of the frying pan into the fire of huge breasts and uncomfortable shoes.
