Hobson's Choice

Catching up

-- We threw a party on Saturday evening. The house was acceptably clean; we had almost enough food; Eleanor shared . And I was able to put her down to bed while the party was still going on. Then she slept all through the night. It is nice to get these reminders that what was difficult can become easy, that children's growth is gratifying, and that we won't be in the baby/toddler stage for ever.

-- And then Sunday, there was a lot of screaming and crayon throwing. It's good to get these reminders as well that we can only be so good for so long.

-- I was also briefly in the doghouse on Sunday because I would not hang out with Eleanor while she masturbated. But like the rule about not eating raw eggs, the rule about masturbating alone is firm in this household.

-- The rule about not eating raw eggs: I have discovered that Eleanor will eat any food so long as it is being mixed into a cake that we are making together. This includes canned pumpkin, baking soda, and flour. Lots of discussion about the states of eggs and when it's okay to eat them (raw, no; hardboiled, yes).

-- Good lord, she ate broccoli three times this weekend. Why can't all green vegetables be in the shape of a tree.
