Vacation
-- Eleanor's last words on the first night of vacation (from the playpen in the Spartansburg, SC Comfort Inn) were "Don't snore." Her first the next morning were "More adventures."
-- On the ride down, Eleanor discovered that the seatbelt of Nana's carseat hits her in just the right place for maximum pleasure. Result: a couple of quiet hours of driving, except for the heavy breathing. Result: Fears that she would do NOTHING else for the entire vacation (happily, she forgot about it until the ride home). Result: maximum parental embarrassment ("Don't look, Mommy," she said). Result: we're now having to talk about how "we only touch our crotch when we're in our bedrooms by ourselves." Result: Chris says he doesn't know if we should send the car seat company $100 (in thanks for the quiet trip) or if we should sue them for $1 mill.
-- Under the influence of older kids, Eleanor became a "big girl" on this vacation. She went into a big swimming pool for the first time; by this morning, she was letting Chris and I carry her around the entire motel pool. She also starting swinging in park swings again; she's so in love it with that it's tantrum-time when she has to leave the swing.
-- Now this is really memorable, and then that's all I'm going to say for tonight. Last night, our motel was across the street from an old-time cafeteria; Chris and I took turns going over there for supper so that Eleanor could swim and play and sleep. When I went, I got in line behind an older gentleman who ordered: crab salad with extra ranch dressing on top, cole slaw with extra ranch dressing on top, three dishes of creamed corn, a dish of extra ranch dressing, and coffee. I have never seen anything like that before.
And the food was really good, too, though I did not myself opt for the extra ranch dressing.
